Be Prepared for Taiwan
Prepared for Taiwan
The following is a list of essentials you will need to do before you come to Taiwan.
1. Get a passport. If you already have one, make sure it is current.
2. Get a round-trip ticket to Taiwan, preferably with a one-year open return. (For a directory of travel agencies offering good rates on air fares to Taiwan, go to best air fares.)
3. Notify your Native English-speaking branch manager of your arrival date and time so s/he can make arrangements for a Schoolhouse representative to meet you at the airport.
4. Locate your original university diploma (which is needed to process your visa), and bring it with you to Taiwan.
5. Bring 8 color passport photos, which are needed to process your resident work visa and driver's license.
6. Renew prescriptions of vital medications, and bring at least a three-month supply with you. (Prescription medications are available on Taiwan, but it's best to bring some along just in case.)
7. Take the basic Teacher Proficiency Test. If you do not pass it, develop a basic knowledge of grammar and phonics before you come to Taiwan by studying Fundamentals of English Grammar by Betty Azar.
8. Read About Taiwan, which will provide you with valuable information about items (e.g., cosmetics) you should bring with you, as well as those which you should not (e.g., an electrical adapter if you're from North America). About Taiwan also prepares you for life in Taiwan, rendering valuable information about housing, transportation, living costs, the climate, and so on.
9. Take care of necessary immunizations. Although Taiwan is a developed country, it is best to have immunizations against polio, and Tetanus-Diphtheria. Though they are not required for entry, you may consult your physician or travel council to see if immunizations for Hepatitis A, and Hepatitis B are recommended.
