Pay Raises
Teachers are eligible for their first pay raise of up to NT$25/hour three months after they begin teaching. To receive the first pay raise, they must pass the Schoolhouse Proficiency Test, which is made up of two parts: The Grammar and Phonics Test and the Teacher's Manual Test.
They must also fulfill the responsibilities pertaining to preparation, punctuality, classroom management, attitude, participation in monthly teacher's meetings and fulfillment of responsibilities as specified in the Schoolhouse Teacher's Manual.
Teachers may receive a second pay raise (of NT$25/hour) at the end of their first year of teaching if they first pass the Schoolhouse Competency Test 2 and continue to fulfill the responsibilities specified in the Schoolhouse Teacher's Manual.
All subsequent pay raises will be given at six-month intervals, and at a maximum increase of NT$25 per hour. The highest hourly rate a teacher can receive is NT$750/hour. Further pay raises require the teacher to assume a position of added responsibility, such as branch manager.
Bonuses
Teachers at Schoolhouse are entitled to the following bonuses:
• An NT$1,000 Teacher's Day bonus
• An NT$1500 Lunar New Year's bonus
• An end-of-contract bonus, which is paid at the time of the completion of each year's contract, and is determined by performance, absences and punctuality, evaluations by the branch manager, and length of service. Teachers who leave before the completion of their first-year contract will not be entitled to a bonus. Teachers who leave before the completion of subsequent contracts may be given bonuses based on the percentage of the current contract that has been completed.
• An NT$15,000 re-signing bonus after the renewal of every one-year contract, payable six months after the next contract has been signed. ** The bonuses above will be given so long as the branch is operating normally and profitably. If for some reason (flood, fire, theft, low enrollment, etc.) the school is financially unable to pay the bonuses listed, every effort will be made to pay at least a portion thereof.
