Climate
Taiwan is a subtropical island with a humid but moderate climate. It has two seasons, hot and cool. The hot season runs from April through November. Average daytime temperatures in Kaohsiung and Tainan during the hot season are 78 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit. The cool season, which runs from December to March, seldom gets colder than 60 degrees Fahrenheit during the daytime.
Year-round temperatures in Pingtung are about 5 degrees Fahrenheit higher than Kaohsiung. They are five degrees Fahrenheit lower in Chiayi, and they are up to 10 degrees Fahrenheit lower in Taichung.
Regardless of where you live on the island, the climate is generally hot and humid most of the year, so its best to bring mostly light weight clothing (made of cotton or cotton blends) with you. With the exception of a few months during the cool season, a coat will be unnecessary.
